Los Tremolo Kings played the Spotted Cat , Frenchmen's Street's world famous music spot, for the first time !
“Femme Fatale”, the first single from our upcoming album, out now on bandcamp!
Los Tremolo Kings are a New Orleans band playing cumbia, chicha and other Latin styles. The band started at Casa Borrega, New Orleans’ legendary Mexican restaurant in the Central City neighborhood. Owner Hugo Montero, from Mexico City, is an accomplished artist, musician and tireless champion of Latin culture. During a four year residence at Casa Borrega we created our unique sound, adding elements of jazz, surf, mambo and more. Guitarist Phil ‘the Tremolo King’ Vanderyken uses wah, distortion and echo to create a mesmerizing soundscape over the hypnotic grooves laid down by Rene Coman ( bass ) and Doug Garrison ( drums ). Doug and Rene are better known as the rhythm section for legendary New Orleans band the Iguanas. Phil Vanderyken is a Belgian immigrant, artist, musician and animator. Phil has performed and recorded both as himself and in many bands in NYC ( where he used to live ) , New Orleans, Austin, Berlin, Los Angeles, and more. Cuban-American singer and songwriter Margie Perez brings her soulful vocals and magnetic stage presence to the band's sound.
After the closing of Casa Borrega in 2024, Los Tremolo Kings branched out into clubs like Madame Vic’s, BJs Lounge and d.b.a.
In June ‘24 we released our first EP, which received a very nice review in Offbeat Magazine. Producer Jayson Nugent AKA Crazy Baldhead, also known as the guitarist for NYC's legendary ska band the Slackers, created a wonderful dub version of our song “Sonido Amazonico”. In September ’24 Los Tremolo Kings released a music video for our version of the mariachi classic “Senderito de Amor”. In January '25 we laid down some tracks at Marigny Studios for our debut album. In April 2025, we played two fantastic shows at French Quarter Fest and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest.
May ‘25 we debuted the first single off our upcoming album on radio station WWOZ , our latin lounge version of the Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale”. Margie Perez is channeling her inner Dionne Warwick while Dave Hillyard from the Slackers contributes some sultry sax playing.
We performed twice live on the air on the WWLTV Morning Show, in 2023 and 2025.
November 1 ‘25, Day of the Dead, we played an amazing show at Tipitina’s in a benefit for ISLA, an organization that provides legal help to immigrants.
In July ‘26 we played for the first time at the Spotted Cat, Frenchmen Street’s premier music spot known the world over. It was a wonderful show and we're looking forward to many more!
Our shows usually turn into a sweaty celebration of life, with everyone dancing the night away to our infectious Latin rhythms and eclectic style! We aim to bring joy in these dark days, because on the dance floor, we’re all equals.
The first single from our upcoming album, a ‘Latin lounge’ version of the Velvet Underground's Femme Fatale, is out now on bandcamp!

Alex Rawls in Myspiltmilk: “Los Tremolo Kings remake “Femme Fatale” as Latin lounge exotica…With their version of “Femme Fatale,” they’ve added a credible, unexpected take on the Velvets and the song.”
